This weekWednesday, May 25 - Exhibition (Dress to the nines day) Exhibition is the name for the 5th graders' culminating IB project. These are presented to all 4th graders. Our class will be receiving presentations from 10:35 - 12:20. Please be mindful of this if you plan to check in/out your child this day. I think this is important for our 4th graders to see these presentations because they will be completing the same type of project this time next year! Thursday, May 26 - Read-a-Thon (pajama day) Once a year, I like to have a day dedicated to reading for pleasure. The students will be able to wear pajamas, bring a stuffed animal (that will be in their locker the first half of the day), and from 12:30 - 2:30, we will be relaxing, snacking, and reading comfortably around the room. This is the culmination of our reading competition, and I fully plan on participating! :) Friday, May 27 - Last Day of School Celebration We will be having our end of year celebration on Friday at 12:30. During the celebration, we will try and accomplish the following things:
Your child may bring in a board game of their choice but please don't let them forget it. I am moving classrooms this year so I am in the process of putting everything in boxes and I would hate to box up something that didn't belong to me after the last day of school! Around 1:45, I will put on a movie and we will relax and tidy up until dismissal. You are welcome to attend some or all of this I know many of the students would like to share the presentations of awards with their parents. I will have a sign out sheet if you plan on checking your child out so you do not have to go through the front office! Tie Dye, Teamwork, and Tower Building

Back at it!
We are really getting back into the swing of things this week! We will be having spelling words and a test on Friday (after Field Day, I know! How cruel!) just like normal. The kids will also have homework again this week for the first time since Milestones. Though it is the end of the year, I want the kids to grow as much as possible before sending them onto 5th grade! Field Day We have been working on our Field Day shirts at school. I will keep them until Field Day just to make sure they are all here on Friday. :) After Friday, the kids will wear them home. Be mindful that though they have been washed once, you may not want to immediately wash them with other clothes. Sometimes it takes a few washes to get all the extra dye out. Also, please make sure Friday you send your child with hats, sunscreen, water bottles, etc. All Field Day activities are outside and it will be warm! I will try to remember to send out a reminder Thursday about this as well. Math We have been working with all kind of units of measurement in math the past few weeks. It would be beneficial to point out places where different types of units are used (feet, yards, pounds, ounces, liters, gallons, quarts, inches) at the grocery store, gas station, etc. Chapter Book Competition I am encouraging the kids to FINISH chapter books in the last three weeks of school. I know many of them get in the habit of starting them and stopping them due to lack of interest. The children will be keeping a record of all chapter books read with a passing AR test score. At the end of the year, the winning student will receive a prize from Little Shop of Stories. Please encourage your child to read both now and over the summer. The number one way to prevent summer slip back is just to read. . Have a wonderful week! |
