Sign up to participate! We REALLY need you to make this event a success, either by signing up to race/walk or by signing up to help run the event. We now have 280 runners/walkers pre-registered, and we’re hoping to reach at least 400. This should be doable, considering we have 750 families at FAVE. To register, visit oakhurstartsrun.com Sign up to volunteer! We REALLY need you to help run the event! We need 40 volunteers to ensure the event runs smoothly, and we have 12 so far. We need folks to hand out race numbers and t-shirts, monitor the race course, record race-times, help tie-dye shirts, and perform several other important jobs. To volunteer, visit our VolunteerSpot at http://vols.pt/97FW6G

Module 3 Engage NY ResourcesThis woman has a video for every lesson in the module. Be careful though, we began with Lesson 4 and will be returning to lessons 1 - 3 at the end of the term. I hope this is a beneficial resource for you! Social Studies and Science Resources The above website highlights in detail every explorer we study during this Unit of Inquiry. This would be a great way to review at home before the assessment comes at the end of the term! As always, Discovery Education is the best resource for science. Contained on the website is every unit in our Science Techbook. Students have complete access to all of these resources anywhere. Their username is "lunch#@csdecatur" and the password is "clark". Make sure you utilize this resource. It is a great one! ELAThis term our focus is on expository (non-fiction) text. We are specifically looking at how text features (captions, sidebars, headings, subheadings, etc) help us better understand non-fiction text. Please encourage your child to read non-fiction texts such as newspapers and interviews! These real world examples are excellent for each child's background knowledge.

Sumdog and Math-A-ThonMath-A-Thon is a major PTO fundraiser. This Monday a pledge sheet was sent home in the red folders. Sumdog is a wonderful math program (and the kids love it) that combines fun and competitive games with learning. You can get to it by going to www.sumdog.com or there is a Sumdog app. Each day we will provide at least 10 minutes for the students to work on Sumdog in class. There is a competition throughout the school to see who can earn the most points. Students may also play at home using the link. They're logins are in their student agendas. Please support our class and PTO by pledging and encouraging your children to play on Sumdog at home! Exciting ChangesWe have had many exciting events this week, some of them due to our changes in administration. We have celebrated Ms. Newton and Ms. Thomas this week by learning more about them at an assembly on Monday (along with the Rialto Jazz Quartet) and celebrating famous Dynamic Duos today!
Addition Using the Standard AlgorithmSubtraction Using the Standard AlgorithmWe had such a great time at the zoo. Thank you so much to all the parent chaperones that made it possible! The children had a wonderful time and learned a lot. We have been working on a summative assessment regarding habitats. We will be finishing it up next week. (All the pictures below can also be found in the "gallery" tab - thank you so much to the wonderful chaperones who took the pictures!) Jacqueline KellyWe had a delightful author visit from Jacqueline Kelly (author of the Evolution of Calpurnia Tate book series). She spoke about her inspiration regarding writing this book series. Next week...We are wrapping up our first Unit of Inquiry next week as we close out our the term. Next week your children will be bringing home a study guide for a Native American assessment and an Ecosystem assessment. Please be sure to review these each night with your children in order to ensure their success on their tests.
Though next week is a short week before a break, I want to emphasize the importance of continuing to be focused in the classroom. Our purpose is to build a respectful community that encourages the growth of knowledge. Thank you so much for all your continued support at home that reiterates the lessons taught in the classroom. |
