Thank you so much for such a wonderful first week of school! It was incredibly exciting and packed full of making new friends and learning new routines. The focus of this week was learning the traits of the learner profile. We discussed each one using authentic literature and at the end of the week, the students worked in groups to come up with examples of each one and created a poster to hang in our classroom. (Ask you child if they can identify each one!) Here are some highlights from our week! What to expect:Next week we will begin our regular schedule. Monday communication folders will come home Monday afternoon in the red folder. Inside will be lots of papers, but perhaps most importantly (to the kids anyway) there will be an iPad release forms. We cannot use iPads until all release forms have been returned. Please make sure to send them back Tuesday morning!
Our first Unit of Inquiry (binding theme for the next 5 weeks) is Sharing the Planet. We will attempt to tie all subject areas back to this central idea. Below is a synopsis of subject area learning for next week: Math: We will be visiting place value in depth and discussing the concept of each place value being 10x the place value to its right. Reading: We are still working on building our reading community through daily read alouds and class discussion. Independent reading time will be implemented daily in order to meet one-on-one with students so I can discover who each child is as a reader. Writing: We will be working on writing about reading, composing complete sentences, and focusing our paragraph around a main idea. Science: Our first unit is regarding ecosystems. We will be discussing ecosystems and determining how living things survive using the resources around them Social Studies: Connecting with our unit of inquiry, we will be discussing Native Americans and how they survived using their available natural resources. As always, do not hesitate to contact me with individual questions or concerns. Thank you so much for a fabulous week, I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
